For more than an hour, the bipartisan group, which included current House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), was given a virtual tour of the CIA's overseas detention sites and the harsh techniques interrogators had devised to try to make their prisoners talk.

Among the techniques described, said two officials present, was waterboarding, a practice that years later would be condemned as torture by Democrats and some Republicans on Capitol Hill. But on that day, no objections were raised. Instead, at least two lawmakers in the room asked the CIA to push harder, two U.S. officials said.

"The briefer was specifically asked if the methods were tough enough," said a U.S. official who witnessed the exchange.

Nazi Pussyoli, do you believe Americans are idiots? Gen. Joseph F. Fil Jr., commander of United States forces in Baghdad, also said that American troops had yet to clear some 13 percent of the city, including Sadr City and several other areas controlled by Shiite militias. But, he said, “there’s just no question” that violence had declined since a spike in June.

“Murder victims are down 80 percent from where they were at the peak,” and attacks involving improvised bombs are down 70 percent, he said.

General Fil attributed the decline to improvements in the Iraqi security forces, a cease-fire ordered by the Shiite cleric Moktada al-Sadr, the disruption of financing for insurgents, and, most significant, Iraqis’ rejection of “the rule of the gun.”

Congrats to the US and the victorious men and women in the US military! A consensus has been reached. On global warming? No, on how Democrats are favored on television, radio and in the newspapers.

Just like so many reports before it, a joint survey by the Project for Excellence in Journalism and Harvard's Joan Shorenstein Center on the Press, Politics and Public Policy — hardly a bastion of conservative orthodoxy — found that in covering the current presidential race, the media are sympathetic to Democrats and hostile to Republicans.

Democrats are not only favored in the tone of the coverage. They get more coverage period. This is particularly evident on morning news shows, which "produced almost twice as many stories (51% to 27%) focused on Democratic candidates than on Republicans."

The most flagrant bias, however, was found in newspapers. In reviewing front-page coverage in 11 newspapers, the study found the tone positive in nearly six times as many stories about Democrats as it was negative.

I can't wait for the media to tell us the sky is blue. Dramatic TV pictures showed one of the bombers driving a cement truck through the concrete blast walls that guard the hotel, then blowing up his vehicle.

Iraq's national security adviser, Mouwafak al-Rubaie, said the attack _ which appeared well-planned _ was a "very clear" effort to take over the hotel and seize journalists as hostages.

NOW they've done it! That's Post Election Selection Trauma survivors. According to the American Health Association, PEST's have "feelings of withdrawal, isolation, emotional anger and bitterness, loss of appetite, sleeplessness, nightmares, pervasive moodiness including endless sulking, blah, blah, blah."

When you take that into account, is it any wonder the rest of the country belives that liberals are mentally ill? Looks like there's a little of that dreaded competition! The Phoenix Group now meets secretly about their plans for the party without even informing Howard Dean. "Senior DNC officials were quietly briefed about the meeting in recent weeks. DNC Chairman Howard Dean was aware of it, in part though his friendship with Stein, but one senior DNC source said the organizers “kept that list [of attendees] kind of tight.”

Get ready for the biggest in-fight you've ever seen. I discovered it was born of socialism and Democrats currently support some of its key tenets. It seems fascists are reactionary, making policy based upon current conditions rather than preventing problems. Look at the Democratic policy regarding terrorism or Social Security and we clearly see who the fascist party is. Another example is chauvinism in which no one has equal rights, but there are varying rights based on characteristics such as race or creed. Democrats support Affirmative Action, creating rights for certain people while leaving others out. A third illustration of fascism is a pronounced hate and accepted public disdain of a specific group. At a January 29th press conference, Howard Dean, now DNC chairman said, "I hate the Republicans.” With his leadership, perhaps Democrats can get those other fascist traits checked off their list quickly.

Military Drug Hypocracy II

If you're in the military, you should never take drugs that may cause confusion, hallucinations, paranoia and psychotic behavior. Everything is hunky dory. But back in the day (ie, the late '90's) they sang a different tune.

"What should we do with this projected surplus. I have a simple four-word answer: Save Social Security first." - Bill Clinton, 1998 State of the Union Address

"We have a great opportunity now to take action now to avert a crisis in the Social Security system. By 2030, there will be twice as many elderly as there are today, with only two people working for every person drawing Social Security. After 2032, contributions from payroll taxes will only cover 75 cents on the dollar of current benefits. So we must act, and act now, to save Social Security." - Bill Clinton, February 1998

So....does it need saving, or does it not?

Separation of Church & State-izzle, III

If there is a separation of church in the US Constitution...is it appropriate to have a national holiday that celebrates the life of a southern baptist minister? Many people are aware of the teachings of Jesus and how he told us it was our responsibility to take care of the poor and not the job of government. When Bredesen cut 320,000 people from the rolls of TennCare he gave the clear signal that the state will not prop up religion. The government’s use of tax dollars to take care of the poor is a clear endorsement of Christianity, which flies in the face of what our founders had in mind. Thankfully in 2005, we have a leader who refuses to force religion down our throats and will not use our tax revenue to legislate morality.

Iraqi War/Tsunami Hypocracy

Why have we not heard cries of "what is the plan for the tsunami relief effort" or "how long are our troops going to be there?" Will they say it's just not worth it-that one person dying is too many and that we should pull out? Will they ask how many members of our military must die before relief is established? The reason I ask is...Saddam Hussein killed millions of people, but we shouldn't be in Iraq because of it. Only a few hundred thousand died in the tsunami, it's no big deal...right?

Military Drug Hypocracy

As a retired member of the armed forces, I have firsthand knowledge that the US military is the greatest force that has ever been on the face of the earth. However when they do crap like this, it makes me cringe.

It seems the military wants to stop drug problems before they start with the forces in Afghanistan and Iraq by increasing drug testing.

The problem I have with this is twofold. First, I have to ask...what will happen if a person comes up positive for an illegal drug? Will they be sent home?

Next I have to wonder how many soldiers who have told their commanders they are gay (no matter whether they are or not) are continuing to serve in combat zones? How many amputees have been returned to the fighting? If you can lose a limb and still go back, I don't see what the incentive is to be a member of the armed forces in Iraq and remain drug-free. I have to point out the hypocracy of the military, especially the Air Force (my former branch). The military has no problem giving it's members performance enhancing drugs when the military would benefit.
